From the Golden West 2004 Rallymaster Pete Soper; a little about this Rally;

Ever since my first introduction to TSD rallying in Canada , I have wanted to put on a challenging gravel road rally here in the states that would provide hours of driving enjoyment on roads that few people ever travel on.

Unfortunately, unpaved roads are almost non-existent down here in the SF bay area, but every time I’d drive to Oregon , Washington or British Columbia , I noticed that the area between Mt Shasta and Oregon is laced with logging and old mining roads.

I ventured out on some of these roads over the years and found what I feel to be a perfect venue for the sort of extended gravel touring rally that I’ve wanted to organize.

The Road Not Taken was one of my all time favorite rallies in the US, but the organizers of that announced they wouldn’t be putting their event on this year, so there was a hole in the PCC calendar and it seemed a perfect opportunity for me to enlist the folks at TRC and the SF region of SCCA to help me put on this 2 day gravel rally based out of Yreka.
