Given the rain, 20 cars was a very good turnout. And it shouldn't be surprising that there were no First Timer teams in this rallye. * The answers to the TB 1 questionnaire were quite diverse. Several gimmicks appeared as one team's favorite gimmick and as another team's least favorite gimmick. Rallyists cast the most favorable votes for the Matadero Creek sign (while missing the landmark gimmick) and for the misspelling of Manchester in the Braille Instruction. And while one team voted for the way "R on Louis" was crossed out at the CP, others voted against the closed-book exam at the CP (and turning in paperwork in the rain) that made it possible. * Everyone got CM 1 (the CM at start), CP 1 & CP 2 (entering the CP), CP 3 & 4 (remembering the CP saying), and CP 12 (question 2 on exam). * No one fell for CX 8 (the fish CM). * Here is a breakdown of how many teams in each class recorded each of the gimmicks: Beg Nov Sen Ex ME Total 1 B 1/3 4/5 5/6 3/4 1/1 14/19 no See Saw landmark 1.7 C 2/3 4/5 4/6 4/4 1/1 15/19 do RI 1.7 before RI 2 2 B 1/3 2/5 2/6 1/4 0/1 6/19 cannot CS without intersection 3 B 2/3 4/5 6/6 4/4 1/1 17/19 "Truck Crossing" before "San Antonio" 4 A 2/3 4/5 6/6 4/4 1/1 17/19 no "Auto with Trailer" sign" 5 A 0/3 3/5 4/6 3/4 1/1 11/19 no Opp without direction specified 6 B 2/3 5/5 6/6 4/4 1/1 18/19 Braille: L on Genevieve 7 B 2/3 3/5 6/6 4/4 1/1 16/19 avoid premature Braille: L on Morris CP 10 2/3 4/5 4/6 4/4 0/1 15/19 omit the non-word "2" from CP saying CP 11 3/3 3/5 6/6 3/4 1/1 16/19 exam question 1: Coupvray CP 13 1/3 3/5 6/6 4/4 1/1 15/19 midterm question 3: The Boardwalk 8 _ 3/3 4/5 4/6 4/4 1/1 16/19 RI 8 was invalid (A/D) 9 A 0/3 1/5 2/6 1/4 0/1 4/19 forced turn not intersection (partial) C 2/3 2/5 4/6 3/4 1/1 12/19 can do both parts at T (full) 10 C 2/3 3/5 6/6 4/4 1/1 16/19 both parts valid 11 B 2/3 3/5 6/6 4/4 1/1 16/19 "Kenneth" on left without SOL 12 C 2/3 4/5 6/6 4/4 1/1 17/19 B & C swapped on score sheet 13 C 1/3 1/5 1/6 0/4 0/1 3/19 A done "at" (within 75 feet of) B CL 7 2/3 4/5 6/6 4/4 1/1 17/19 R on Louis (GIs) 14 B 1/3 4/5 6/6 4/4 1/1 16/19 R on Louis (GIs) or Bonus: Louis CN 9 1/3 3/5 5/6 4/4 1/1 14/19 both 15A & 15B were bad 16 B 2/3 3/5 6/6 4/4 1/1 16/19 Braille: L on Ortega CA 2 2/3 4/5 4/6 4/4 1/1 15/19 on-course CM CA 2 2/3 3/5 3/6 3/4 1/1 12/19 both CA spaces on score sheet 18 C 2/3 3/5 5/6 4/4 1/1 15/19 extra words do not invalidate sign 19 B 2/3 5/5 5/6 4/4 1/1 17/19 "Torreya" on left without SOL 20 B 2/3 5/5 5/6 4/4 1/1 17/19 Braille: R on Flowers 21 B 2/3 5/5 6/6 4/4 1/1 18/19 Bonus: Kipling 22 B 2/3 2/5 2/6 0/4 0/1 6/19 Matadero Creek not a landmark 23 B 2/3 4/5 5/6 4/4 1/1 16/19 Bonus: Kipling again 24/25 1/3 4/5 6/6 4/4 1/1 16/19 24 & 25 swapped on score sheet 26 B 2/3 5/5 6/6 4/4 1/1 18/19 Bonus: Byron 27 A 2/3 4/5 6/6 4/4 1/1 17/19 "SA" not on sign CZ 6 2/3 3/5 6/6 4/4 1/1 16/19 Braille: R on Bruce 28 C 1/3 2/3 1/4 1/1 0/0 5/13 2nd action of B bad, but still mark C CJ 7 0/3 1/5 0/6 1/4 0/1 2/19 Bad: L rather than R on Louis CQ 11 1/3 2/5 2/6 1/4 0/1 6/19 Bonus or R on Louis, then RI 28 late CC 10 0/3 2/5 2/6 3/4 1/1 8/19 Bonus or R on Louis, but not RI 28 late CQ&CC 0/3 0/5 1/6 0/4 0/1 1/19 Impossible combination 29 A 0/3 1/5 3/6 3/4 1/1 8/19 "Greer" was on left as you passed it 30 B 2/3 4/5 5/6 4/4 1/1 16/19 Bonus: Lawrence 31 B 2/3 4/5 6/6 4/4 1/1 17/19 A & B reversed on RI page CR 6 2/3 4/5 5/6 3/4 1/1 15/19 Braille: R on Sandra CD 6 0/3 0/5 0/6 0/4 0/1 0/19 Braille: R on Sandra (done late) CR&CD 0/3 0/5 1/6 1/4 0/1 2/19 Impossible combination CT 4 2/3 2/5 4/6 4/4 1/1 13/19 R on Louis (full) CF 3 0/3 1/5 0/6 0/4 0/1 1/19 Bonus: Louis (partial) 32 C 1/3 0/5 3/6 1/4 1/1 6/19 words (not numbers) must appear on sign 33 A 2/3 4/5 6/6 3/4 1/1 16/19 "NATS" did not appear on sign CS 4 2/3 3/5 5/6 4/4 1/1 15/19 R on Louis (full) CE 3 1/3 0/5 0/6 0/4 0/1 1/19 Bonus: Louis (partial) CS&CE 0/3 1/5 0/6 0/4 0/1 1/19 Impossible combination 34 A 1/3 3/5 4/6 3/4 1/1 12/19 don't drive on "Greer" sign 35 B 2/3 4/5 6/6 4/4 1/1 17/19 "First Opp" not on a sign 36 A 2/3 2/5 6/6 3/4 1/1 14/19 Braille: L on Morris CP 14 2/3 3/5 6/6 4/4 1/1 16/19 final question 3: Larry's AutoWorks 37 A 1/3 1/5 3/6 3/4 1/1 9/19 RI 37 did have A & B parts (partial) D 1/3 1/5 2/6 1/4 0/1 5/19 part D was also a valid part (full) 38 C 2/3 3/5 6/6 4/4 1/1 16/19 "Verde" & "Loma" on "Loma Verde" sign 39 B 0/3 0/5 0/6 2/4 1/1 3/19 L at T for Loma Verde & Vernon Terrace CV 4 1/3 3/5 4/6 0/4 0/1 8/19 R on Louis (zero: crossed out) CH 3 2/3 1/5 1/6 4/4 1/1 9/19 Bonus: Louis (full) 40 B 2/3 2/5 5/6 3/4 1/1 13/19 deny misspelled Braille: Manchestew CP 8 0/3 1/5 2/6 1/4 1/1 5/19 Date: January 4, 2009 CP 9 3/3 4/5 6/6 4/4 1/1 18/19 answers crossed out (not circled) * One protest was granted to all cars. I had given full credit for doing RI 28 late at the parallel "Louis" sign to get CQ 11. However, the parallel "Louis" sign would have been on the left as you passed it, and SOL was not used. Thus, all cars that continued straight and got CC 10 also received full credit. * A big THANK YOU to everyone who made this rallye possible: Steve Beuerman, Kim Graham, Trevor Graham, Abby Grossman, and Dean Stanton who prechecked; Dean Stanton and Abby Grossman who worked the checkpoints in the rain; Nancy Hanna and Steve Watt, who printed the rallye materials; Nick and Teresa Stefanisko, our illustrious awards committee; Dean Stanton, our new TRC Treasurer, who worked registration; and All of you! We hope to see you again next month at 24! -- Darin McGrew, Rallyemaster -- Michelle McGrew, Assistant Rallyemaster Soli Deo Gloria!
